This vintage ring in 18 karat gold is set with an oval cabochon-cut turquoise. The stone displays a vivid sky-blue colour with natural dark matrix, giving each angle its own character. Raised above the finger, it is held by slender, claws that allow the turquoise to remain the clear focal point.
The setting is built with elegant, flowing gold supports that rise from the shoulders of the ring and curve gently towards the stone, creating an open, airy construction. More than simply holding the turquoise, the sculptural setting is an essential part of the design, giving the ring much of its distinctive character. The shank is broadest beneath the setting, where it separates into two graceful arms on each side before sweeping upwards to support the turquoise.
Bold in colour yet distinguished by its sculptural setting, it sits on the hand with a confident presence. Equally striking with crisp linen, denim or a tailored jacket, it is a ring that brings a fresh note of colour without ever feeling overstated.
Founded in 1947 by master goldsmith and stone setter Allan Edwardson, Atelier Ajour grew from an established jewellery workshop on Smålandsgatan in Stockholm before later moving to Engelbrektsgatan, where the atelier remains today. Edwardson trained under the renowned jeweller A.E. Thomason, whose workshop was regarded as one of Sweden's finest training grounds for goldsmiths during the twentieth century.
