A vintage brooch in gilded silver set with a finely carved shell cameo. The oval cameo depicts a woman in profile, her hair arranged in elaborate curls beneath a feathered headdress. She wears a beaded necklace and a softly draped garment, with fine carving around the neckline, hair and facial features giving the portrait remarkable depth and detail. The warm reddish-brown shell forms a rich background to the creamy white relief.
The cameo is held within a polished gilded silver frame, allowing the carving to remain the focus. On the reverse, the brooch is fitted with a long pin, hinged at one side and secured by a traditional C-shaped catch at the other.
Classical and decorative without feeling overly formal, it looks beautiful on a blazer, coat or simple dress, where its generous size gives it a confident presence.
