The cufflinks were made in 1987 to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the Swedish company that owned and operated the copper mine, Falu Gruva, for hundreds of years, Stora Kopparbergs Bergslags AB. The Falu copper mine was closed in 1992 and is today classified as a World Heritage Site.
